Take a complete occupational history of a person at least 40 years of age. Derive as complete an understanding of the person’s vocational patterns and relate this information to the person’s stated psychological well-being. The project is one of inquiry, however, not therapy. Possible questions:
Earliest career recollection * influential family members * non-paid work * parents/grandparents/siblings’ work
School subjects experiences * favorites * least enjoyed
First paid job * how obtained * positive / negative aspects * why left

History and impact of unemployment
What is person’s ‘career dream’? Is it being realized? Why/ Why not?
How has race, class, gender, sexual orientation, religion, dis/ability impacted career choices?
How has cultural background shaped person’s views about work options, career possibilities?
How has immigration, technology, globalization impacted person’s occupational history?
In what way is person connected with professional organizations related to occupation?
How does person’s job fit into view of self? Level of satisfaction? What would need to be different?
Explore and articulate the person’s vocational journey with reference to values, beliefs, customs, traditions, and sociopolitical conditioning.
Recount a clear picture of an incident (positive or negative) person had with another individual related to vocational choices/development.
Discuss values, beliefs, and goals about life ‘success.’
What recommendations would you make if this was your career client?
Write a paper summarizing this material derived and attempt to relate it to a theoretical position (Super, Holland, Savickas, etc). 5 page minimum – 10 pages max.
