For this essay, you’ll need to watch Walk the Line (2005). In your essay, compare the life of the protagonist (main character) in the movie to the psychological theories and concepts in the textbook for the lifetime periods portrayed.
Start your essay with the name of the movie, and describe the lifetime periods of the person who is portrayed. Compare and contrast what the textbook says should be happening in the person’s life with what happened to the person, as portrayed in the film. Use events from the person’s life to show your understanding of the typical milestones and adjustments that people encounter at various stages in their lives. Use the names of theories and concepts (“jargon”) to show your understanding of the material.
This is not a movie review–so comments about the quality of acting or cinematography are not relevant. Put on your “psychology” hat, and write a response to the movie as if you’ve completed a course on lifespan development. Other than that, this essay does not have a required structure. Feel free to go in the directions you believe make the most sense and explain your thoughts about connecting the film and the material best.
Your essay should be about 500 words. If it’s under 450 words, then I deduct the same percent of missing words from the overall grade (so a 400 word essay would lose about 10% from the grade). Please do not submit an essay over 800 words.
