Reaction Papers
The reaction papers are intended to give both you and your instructor a glimpse of your
development as a critical thinker across the course of this semester. It is designed to stimulate
and facilitate both your analytic and self-exploration skills relevant to specific course material.
As such, you will be required to react to a specific reading. Papers should follow APA format
and be 3 pages in length (no more/no less).
Evaluation. Evaluation of the reaction papers is based on your effort and depth of process.
Complete sentences, grammar, spelling, etc. are important in the evaluation of your papers. Be
sure to put your name and the date on your assignment!
The primer questions that must be answered in each paper are:
1. What 2 salient principles from the reading impacted you both cognitively and
emotionally?
2. How was the reading helpful in understanding African-Americans more deeply?
3. What 1 principle from the reading was hard to understand and/or agree with? Please share
what you think contributed to this difficulty within you and/or the author’s writing.
