The goal of the Final Paper is to enable you to demonstrate: a) a firm grasp of an interdisciplinary topic, b) the ability to analyze the interdisciplinary topic you chose as related to a specific case, c) write a research paper in APA format.
To complete this goal you will write a 7-10 page paper (including a Statement of the Problem, Social Science Research, Summary and Conclusions, with 1â margins, 12 point font) Research paper. The case your paper focuses on will be decided as a group, and your individual paper most focus on a concept that is contained within the general bucket of psychology and the legal system, but should be based on published psychology research studies.
This paper is an opportunity to either address a question/tension regarding your case or to present expert consultation on a topic as it relates to your case, summarizing what is known about the topic and acknowledging the limitations of the research.
For example you might choose a topic that addresses a specific factual question within your case. Examples include: reliability of eye witnesses as related to race and/or violent crimes, reliability of confessions in police custody, reliability of child eyewitness testimony, or possibly juror decision-making in specific types of criminal or civil cases on the basis of race.
The majority of psycho-legal topics involve disadvantages populations (i.e., communities of color and poor communities) and their interactions with the legal system and/or addresses standards of care/professional practice among psychologists, please make sure that your paper addresses conclusions regarding issues of fairness in treatment of disadvantaged populations and professional competence standards where appropriate.

Each member will write a separate paper about the case based on a specific aspect of the case: police psychology, evidence, witnesses, jury selection, sentencing, etc. Maybe members divide up the subtopics and each person covers one or two. All group members must identify an area of the problem as an area of psycho-legal theory/research. ( Aspects of the case include: policing/arrest, eyewitness identification/testimony, expert witnesses/testimony, confessions, and jury instructions. These topics all play major roles in the ultimate outcome of a case.

Scholarly articles, empirical studies
New articles, other media regarding your subtopic
Summary and Conclusion (will not be complete but should be started). Should include your initial thoughts about possible changes/or not to the law based on your review of social and scientific research.
