Discuss how you, as a leader, would counter the negative organizational effect of one or two of the following principles that promote organizational toxicity:
Inequitable reward and recognition practices – (I definately see this alot as a floor nurse, such as a daisy award or recognition from peers but I feel like these are one sided recognitions for nurses. i think doing peer evauluations or having an employee of the month to recognize for some of their hard work from their peers gives more recognition and feedback.
Failure to manage unmotivated employees- I think the motto ” your only as strong as your weakest employee” which i learned in the military really promotes that you can only be as efficient when a team works together not as individuals. finding out what motivates your employees or why their not being engaged may be a factor in helping build a better team
Toxic mentoring- definetly see this a lot in nurse and as a future np. where nurses feel they need to bully the young (new nurses) since that was done to them. def. is an outdated approach to mentoring.
Use specific hypothetical examples as much as possible to illustrate your point. Address this not only in the frame of being an RN, but also your future role as an APRN/NP.
