INCLUDE hypothesis = it is hypothesised that a person has to “mentally” rotate the letter to its upright position before making their decision. If this mental rotation does take place, it should take longer to rotate the image when the stimulus is rotated further from the vertical, and therefore judgments will be slower for these trials than trials with letters that have been rotated to a lesser extent. Limitations
– The order effect might be a limiting factor. The best technique to prevent people from memorising a specific sequence is to randomly show different sequences at different times.
– Limitations can occur due to order effects. It’s easier to remember if there’s no rotation and one image is presented repeatedly; randomization can help prevent this.
– Proportion of the same or different is important for the reliability and validity of the data. If we don’t have a balanced distribution of people, we’ll have problems with confounding variables that can cause skewed results.
Practice trials make it easier to memorize patterns and can be a confounding variable.
If a response is over 3 seconds the initial stimuli will be replaced with a new stimulus which can get in the way of our results.
– For future studies, it could be interesting to investigate what happens if new stimuli aren’t shown after 3 seconds.
– Something to consider for future research is not displaying new stimuli after 3 seconds and seeing how this affects the results.
– The practice of stopping the presentation of new stimuli every three seconds and observing the impact this has on the findings is something that should be taken into consideration for future research.
