Research Check-in
Step #1 â Examine your Investigative Research Question (if you have made any changes) Occasionally, researchers will stumble on a more interesting IRQ early in their investigation. More often, researchers will shift their questions to fit their early findings. If you would like to make any minor changes to your question, you may want to review the guidelines to make sure that it still works. If you have any doubts or if you are considering any major changes to this question, you may want to check with me. Note that an extension on this assignment to enable you to revise your research question is possible through consultation with me.
Step #2 â Conduct Research for your next blog – Note this will be the bulk of your work today so give it your all.
Following your plan and the Guidelines for your chosen (second) method, work on your research project. You will be required to report your findings for your next blog, so the more you do now, the easier that will be.
If you are conducting an interview, you might have to wait for your results. In that case, you might have a light day today and a heavier one later. Make sure that you work on your survey if you need to and send out any interview requests that you need to submit.
Step #3âReflect on your findings (minimum 200 words):
Have you made any changes to the plan that you outlined in Planning Blogs #1 and #2? If so, discuss those here.
What answers have you found to your investigative research question (IRQ)? You don’t need to include details, just big picture details about what you are discovering.
Do you have any questions or concerns about finding answers to your IRQ? Note â you will be required to report the details of your findings for your next blog, so if you have any pressing concerns, you should consider emailing me for some quick and helpful advice. I am also available for a zoom chat, if you would like to do that instead.
Step 1: Reflect on your progress
What is your investigative research question and how does your primary research help you to address that question? Note that one method might help you to answer it, and another might provide some other important context. Discuss that here.
What have you accomplished with your primary research so far? Be specific. discuss both instruments (your public opinion/class survey; and your second instrument).
Have you been able to make regular progress on your research project? What (if any) problems have you encountered? How have you dealt with those problems? What are your plans to complete all remaining research by the deadline of April 1st Review, Revise, and ReflectReview, Revise, and Reflect
In your final report, you will be reporting on the data that you collected through two methods. Which of these do you think will provide you with the best/most interesting data? Why?
Do you have any remaining concerns about your ability to answer your IRQ and/or report interesting data for your audience? If so, what are these? How do you plan to address these concerns? Note that you should email me right away if you have pressing concerns. I can help.
Post your answers (minimum 150 words) here.
One purpose of a literature review is to establish your ethos. Your goal is to persuade your audience that you have read enough great sources to have a sophisticated understanding of the larger academic conversation that you will be joining with your textual report. Consider the extent to which you are achieving that goal, by answering the following questions:
Do you think that you have cited and discussed a sufficient number of appropriate sources to show a sophisticated understanding of this larger conversation? Why or why not? Have you found enough peer-reviewed journal articles? What else might you want to find?
Do you think that you have provided enough information about the people who are engaging in this conversation (i.e. the authors, their credentials, their agenda and/or motivations)? Can you think of any details you might want to add in a future revision? NOTE – While you want details about the speakers (i.e authors) you do not want details about the medium (i.e. DO NOT include titles, or any description of the article).
Do you think that you have painted a complete picture of this larger conversation by discussing a variety of perspectives, ideas, studies etc. What other perspectives might you need to find? What other information about the conversation
NOTE: I uploaded a draft with material that you can use based on previous works.
