The purpose of this assignment is to assess a drug dependent character from the movie Half Nelson (2006) and write a Case Study using research and knowledge learned from the course. You will watch Half Nelson, where the focus is about a person that has a substance dependence problem. Include the following information in your paper:
BACKGROUND (20): Describe the background of the correct person (addict) – name, where they live, gender, age, family (marital status/relationship, children, etc), occupation, problems with law enforcement and/or illegal activities, age and circumstances when first started using (if known), etc.
DRUGS USED (15): Identify the “drug of choice” used (must be a substance covered in class), include amount and frequency of use, and method of delivery (oral, injection, e). Research the “street names”/nicknames for the above used drug.
PREVENTION (20): Identify the primary risks factors that may have contributed to the character’s substance use disorder and possible protective factors that could have prevented the drug use.
DSM-V-TR (25): Using the DSM-V-TR criteria for Substance Use Disorder, diagnose the character by identifying ALL criteria met, justify how each criterion is met by giving examples from the movie, and include the level of severity of the disorder.
