Once you develop your PICOT, you then are to explain how you arrived at the topic you chose and the question you developed that stemmed from the resource link in week two content that is the approved topics by the college of nursing. Your PICOT must have a time frame as clinical agencies want to know when the project will be completed – the time frame could be until time of discharge, or at the end of 3 months, 6 months, but no longer than one year.
Lastly state why this topic and PICOT is important for nursing.
Your PICOT questions should be written as follows: In Latino patients, ages 18-60, diagnosed with Diabetes Type II (P), can a comprehensive culturally specific nutrition and exercise program (I), compared to usual practice (C), reduce weight and HgbA1C (O), within a 6-month period (T)?
PICOT stands for:
Population/ Patient Problem: Who is your patient? (Disease or Health status, age, race, sex)
Intervention: What do you plan to do for the patient? (Specific tests, therapies, medications)
Comparison: What is the alternative to your plan? (ie. No treatment, different type of treatment, etc.)
Outcome: What outcome do you seek? (Less symptoms, no symptoms, full health, etc.)
Time: What is the time frame? (This element is not always included.)
