HERE’S THE IDEA
You graduated from college three years ago and are out in the workforce. Tell us in a sentence or
two what the company you work for does. (Use your imagination, but keep it simple). You’ve been promoted twice already. You’ve made a few friends in high places.
You have just been given the job of building and then leading a team to do something the company has never done before. It’s pretty innovative, but not totally unrelated to the normal work of your company.
You must personally hire each member of your new team to achieve the goal you have been given.
Forget budget and the hiring process and all that for this exercise.
Instead focus on what characteristics you want in this team. How many people will you need? What skills and experience and training will they need to bring? Your ability to train will be limited by time and budget constraints. They must hit the ground running. So what are the characteristics you want them to possess and bring to the table as soon as they start?
How will you identify the qualities you want? What will you look for when you interview them? What will you ask their references about them? How will you be certain you are getting good people?
Tell us all you can about building your truly tremendous team. Also tell us about the traits you definitely do not want them to have. And feel free to discuss how you will motivate them and monitor them for stress or burnout.
Include some supporting material from the lectures and all the other class materials
to bolster your plans. Be sure to footnote everything you use.
PLEASE REMEMBER THAT THIS PAPER is to be written primarily from class content – including lectures, books, articles and videos provided) – and your personal knowledge and experience. If you wish to include some outside material, such as from books, internet material, publications and so on, all your sources need to be shown and indicated clearly. Directly quoted content needs to be footnoted. Do not include material you wrote for previous papers
FORMAT & LENGTH: About six or more total pages of content as outlined above.
Please use 1.5 line spacing (as shown in this paragraph).
Keep your paragraphs reasonably short (3-5 sentences) to make your text more
readable. NO MASSIVE BLOCKS/PARAGRAPHS OF TEXT PLEASE! Short paragraphs
communicate much better to readers.
Keep charts within the text pages to 1/4 to 1/3 of a page in size (if larger put them in
the Appendix, direct the reader to them and explain what they represent (give me a reason to look back and find them and help me know why you put them there).
I RECOMMEND/PREFER YOU SHOW YOUR SOURCES IN FOOTNOTES on the pages where the referred content is shown. Word is good at this and it’s relatively easy to do well. Please use MLA footnote style if possible.
Please do not just give me a few sources in an endnote. This is not acceptable, sorry.
