Paragraph 1: Talk about my spark as in what sparked my interest in medicine – Back in India I was just 11 years and saw my grandfather go through a lot he had Hepatitis C and the lack of doctors and equipment in our town he did not make it. This is what made me want to go into medicine. My mom going through panic attacks and just being there for her while she is going through severe anxiety taking care of her seeing her struggle and me not doing able to do a lot for her really made me want to get into medicine.
Paragraph 2: Talk about my scribe experience. I used to scribe an anesthesiologist. I came across many patients dealing with spinal, cervical, or thoracic pain and was there experiencing everything hands-on. Was there to see how the doctor was diagnosing the patient and how to treat each of them based on their diagnoses of family background is really important. Ex. Treating an addict is very different from treating someone who is not an addict. Being able to order prescriptions and writing patient visits was very interesting to me and it really determined my decision in going into medicine
Paragraph 3: Volunteering at Abington Hospital gave me an opportunity to interact with patients of all ages and I was able to learn how it is very important to behave in a certain way with all ages and depending on what they are going through. During Covid times it really taught me how important it is to feel not only for patients but also for their families. being able to go through the struggle that they are going through. along with volunteering, I had a great shadowing experience shadowing my own trauma surgeon after I got into a severe, not-at-fault auto accident I was able to be a patient experience patient goes through and also was present for the patient being there in the splenectomy surgery of and learning all the aspects of it. I kept calm throughout the surgery and it was very fascinating to see and think the way surgeons do.
Paragraph 4: My passion for medicine continued to grow while studying and working as an analyst in a chemistry lab (working on testing medicines, scribing volunteering. There have been many hurdles in between but I did not give up and I kept on working toward medicine.

Remember, the admissions committee already knows how you look on paper, they now want to know who you are. This is the place in your application where you have freedom. You can be humorous, you can be serious or you can be philosophical. The key is to just be yourself. Let your personality shine through.
– Keep It Readable
– You will also want to keep your personal statement to a readable length and writing style. Trying to use large words and convoluted sentences to make the person sound more impressive will only lead the reader to put the paper down.
– Make It Interesting
– Perhaps the most important goal of all though is to keep the personal statement interesting. Your personal statement needs to be one that keeps the reader’s interest throughout. Remember, medical school admissions committees are reading hundreds of these essays. You want yours to stand out in a good way. Writing a generic personal statement may not get you rejected, but it certainly will not get you into medical school.
The name doesnât matter but the context of the story matters.
