An overview of parenting in stepfamilies – Based on information in your textbook and at least three other scholarly sources (at least two of these sources must be empirical research) on stepfamily life, what is some of the primary guidance scholars give for successful parenting in stepfamilies?
A description of the parenting portrayed in the film – Students will briefly describe the parenting tactics used by each of the three parents in the film. Include in this section a discussion of the relationship between the parents.
A critical review of the film’s portrayal of stepfamily life – Did the film accurately portray parenting in a stepfamily? How so? If a parent were to watch the film hoping to gain an understanding of how to successfully navigate parenting in a stepfamily, would they gain helpful insight (according to our scholarly understanding of stepfamilies)? Why? If you could change the portrayal of step-parenting in the film to provide better insight, what would you change? Why?
NOTE: This paper will require students to read ahead to Chapter 12 to gain an understanding of stepfamilies.
