“Hayes (1995) coded over 5,000 personal ads and found that men are looking for attractive, younger women, while women are seeking financially stable older men. These findings can be explained socially (e.g., men are more concerned with physical attractiveness, whereas women want a partner who is a good financial prospect) or in evolutionary terms [e.g., younger women have a reproductive advantage, while older males are more likely to provide shelter and security]” (Baron & Branscombe, 2012).
Read the following article and then examine the personal ads to look for trends in age preferences, attraction, and other desireable qualities by gender and sexual orientation. You will have to search for the article through the library or internet.
