The Quality and Safety Education for Nurses (QSEN) Institute recognizes the link between evidence-based practice, quality improvement and patient safety. For this assignment view the video âChasing Zeroâ on the QSEN website (QSEN.org; education; videos) or copy and paste the link below.

After viewing the video, discuss the following:
Effectiveness of Safety Interventions (20%): It has been ten years since the release of âChasing Zeroâ. Many of the safety interventions (check-lists, technology, bedside rounds) have been integrated into practice. Have these interventions improved patient safety? Why or why not (what does the data say)?
Barriers to Safety (20%): The movie identified three contributing âGoliathâ factors as barriers (shame, malpractice, and cost) to resolving healthcare-related errors and improving patient safety. Do these barriers still exist today? How should these barriers be assessed and eliminated in the clinical setting?
Role of the Bedside Nurse in Quality Improvement (20%): How do bedside nurses influence quality improvement initiatives? Consider both their role in identifying trends and issues, collecting data pertinent to the issues, and implementing change.
Evaluation of Initiatives (20%): Choose a quality improvement initiative discussed in the video, and describe how evidence-based practice changes would be best measured in the clinical environment to determine whether or not outcome improvement resulted.
Guidelines for the paper:
Introduction (10%) and Conclusion (10%): A clear and concise introduction is essential and should include a few general statements about the topic to provide a background to the discussion and to attract the reader’s attention. A clear and concise conclusion is also important and should restate main points, summarize the key supporting ideas discussed throughout the paper, and offer any final impressions on the topic.
Format and Length: APA 7th Edition format required for paper body, references, in-text citations, and title page. This paper should be four to five pages in length (not including title and references pages).
Writing Technique: College-level writing expected – use of proper grammar and sentence structure. A minimum of 3 scholarly/peer reviewed or evidence-based practice articles from nursing journals (no more than 5 years old) must be used throughout the paper. Articles must be uploaded to Canvas in pdf format to receive credit for reference. The course textbook may be used in addition to the articles as a support source. No more than two direct quotes.
See attached rubric for breakdown of points and greater details for requirements.
