Avoid heavy summary. Focus instead on the function of the narrative. What does it do? Why? For whom? How? How does it reflect the time and place that produced it? Does it resonate with its intended audience? Why or why not? What issues or themes is this text exploring? How do you know? Does the author rely on allegory or metaphor? What sort of stylistic choices are made? Why? What can the lived experience of the author tell you about the text? Would you recommend it? Why or why not? Be as specific as possible. The first person is generally discouraged, except in your final judgment where you make a recommendation to me about whether or not the book warrants reading. Yes or no is not enough. Discuss, specifically, why or why not. You may use the first person in that final section only.
