Here are the instruction for your paper project for this course.
Your task is the following:
1. You will select at least one chapter from the textbook that has a particular interest to you in which you would like to write about.
– I have students that select the chapter on memory, because they have a family member that suffers from Alzheimer’s, and they want to do some research on the subject to better understand the condition.
– I have students that select the chapter on psychological disorders, because they have a spouse who is military and suffers from PTSD. Or, they have a parent that suffers from Bipolar Disorder, Schizophrenia, Depression (you name it), and they want to better understand how this condition effected their ability to parent.
– I have had students in the medical field select the chapters covering the physiological components and lifespan development, as they have had a friend who suffered a TBI (traumatic brain injury) from playing sports, and wanted to know how this impacted their development, and why the injury caused the damage it did.
****From these examples, you can see that you can select one chapter, two chapters, or multiple chapters, in order to address your topic of interest. The bottom line is that I want you to choose a subject that has some personal interest to you, and make it an academic paper.
2. Your paper needs to be in the Narrative/Reflective style.
– I am not looking for a solely research based paper, although you will need to do some research and cite your references, but you cannot simply “copy and paste” your research and use some quotation marks/citations to validate. I want as much of this paper to be in your words as possible. So, if you find some excellent information, you can use some of it to spark off the discussion in your paper – but you must keep it to a minimum and use your own words. This leads to the next requirement:
3. Originality report CANNOT exceed 20%.
– This means that any quotes you use in your paper (non-original content) cannot exceed 20% of the overall content.
4. APA Format!!!! No MLA or any other style. I know that APA does not usually allow the use of “I” or “me” in the writing – but I will allow the exception for this paper.
5. You must have AT LEAST 1500 words for the content of your paper (this does not include peripherals such as the abstract, references, etc.). You can indeed have more than 1500 words.
6. You must be sure to have 4 additional outside references from your text.
