For Part 1 of this assignment, you will choose a movie or tv show that focuses on characters in this age group. Choose a character from the movie/tv show whom you imagine to be your client/student in a counseling relationship. Then, after you watch the movie, create a dialogue that might occur between you and the student/client in a counseling session, and document the dialogue in the form of a counseling transcript that includes a minimum of 20 exchanges between counselor and client.
Example of Counseling Transcript. First exchange – Counselor: It’s good to see you. Tell me what brings you here today. Client: I’m having a really bad day. Second exchange – Counselor: Ok. Go on. Client: Well…(etc.)
The dialogue that you imagine with the movie character, which you will document in transcript form, needs to evince your theoretical orientation. For example, if your theoretical orientation is Solution-Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT), then the transcript of your dialogue might include the miracle question (a SFBT technique), which would look something like this:
COUNSELOR: Imagine that you go to sleep, and that when you wake up the next day, you can see that everything in your world is exactly the way you need it to be. Now, tell me about the things that you notice to be different when you wake up.
Your theoretical approach should be clearly identifiable in at least 3 segments in which the counselor is speaking.
Part 2
For Part 2 of this assignment, first, reflect on your own experiences during early adolescence, as well as your motivators for choosing movie character who was the client/student in your dialogue.
Then, write a paper to address the questions/prompts presented in the outline below. Use APA (7th ed.) formatting for your paper, include the 3 sections denoted in the outline, cite at least one professional source (e.g., textbook, peer-reviewed journal article, professional book on a counseling topic), and ensure that all cited sources are documented in the list of references.
I. Introduction
Name the movie/tv show you picked and include a short summary about the character you chose for the dialogue.
II. Personal reflection
Why did you choose this character for your dialogue?
How is the character similar to/different from you when you were the character’s age?
III. Character Reflection
What were the character’s presenting issues?
What theoretical orientation guided your approach with the student/client in the dialogue?
Which theory-driven strategies/interventions did you include in the dialogue to evince your theoretical approach?
IV. Creative Therapy
Describe the creative strategy.
What materials does it require?
Why did you choose this creative strategy for your work with the movie character?
