The goal of this paper is for you to observe one of the developmental concepts we have discussed in class or to conduct an interview. You can observe infants or children on their own or interacting with others OR you can interview children with verbal abilities.
This assignment should entail: 1) reviewing at least three peer-reviewed sources (e.g., journal articles, chapters) to introduce the topic of interest in the paper;
2) conducting and documenting the observations or interviews; and
3) applying your developmental knowledge to real-world settings.
There should be five components of the paper:
1) an opening paragraph in which you provide an overview of the developmental concept you chose for your observations or interviews to observe and its importance in relation to development; (PHYSICAL & COGNITIVE DEVELOPMENT IN EARLY CHILDHOOD)
2) a brief review of the literature you read for this project and what is known about it from the sources reviewed (cite at least three scientific articles using APA style);
3) a description of where you conducted the observations or interviews, why you chose that location, and careful specification of what you observed or gained from the interviews;
4) a comparison of what you observed or acquired from the interviews and whether and how that fits or differs with the literature regarding the developmental concept; and 5) a reference section formatted using APA style.
No more than 3 double-spaced pages.
Who should you observe?
* An infant or toddler you know through a friend, neighbor, or family member
* Infants or toddlers who you don’t know but are in public places (e.g., playground, park, shopping mall, toy stores) where you can observe them from afar [do not approach children you don’t know]
