This project involves interviewing a person in Late Adulthood (age 64 and older). This person needs to be cognitively clear (no cognitive disabilities like Alzheimer’s or other dementias). They need to be able to understand and communicate about their life.
You will be required to submit a 3 to 5 page paper (excluding the cover page and reference page). Use APA format: Video at APA Format 7th edition or website at Purdue Owl APA. Please be sure the title page is part of the document you turn in; do not turn in a document that is the project and a separate document that is the title page. Be sure to cite your textbook to support what you have learned about Eriksonâs Theory AND add it to your Reference Page. You are welcome to cite other sources as well. Just add anything you cite to your reference page. Your paper should have the following subheadings:
Introduction: Tell me about who you interviewed (no real names, just describe them), how you found them, how much time you spent with them, where you interviewed them, and how old they are.
Stages:
What is your earliest memory? What stage is their earliest memory from? How do you know this?
What do you remember from your early childhood, middle/late childhood, adolescence, early/young adulthood, and middle adulthood stages?
Try to get at least one memory from each stage. You will need to define for them what each stage means. Avoid using only the period name (i.e. Adolescence), but use the stage name (i.e. Identity vs Role Confusion).
Regarding Eriksonâs Psychosocial Stages, how are they handling late adulthood (integrity vs. despair)? Why do you think this? This section is VERY important.
Discussion
(This section carries heavy weight in your overall grade): Here is where you discuss the stages that the person went through and how they compare to Eriksonâs stages. Identify what your participant shared for each stage that illustrated to you whether or not the participant came through the stage successfully or not.
Consider cultural impacts on your participantâs development. Culture can involve the familial environment, geographic location, socioeconomic, or other cultural considerations that are relevant). You are welcome to choose just one cultural consideration for each participant. One paragraph is fine.
If you get stuck, and you need some prompt questions, then ask them about stereotypical events that happen in each stage.
Conclusion: In a few sentences, discuss (not just mention) your personal awareness &/or changes of ideas regarding environmental impacts on development based on what you learned while completing this class and this project.. Were there any surprises? How did what you learned to help you understand human development?
