JUNIOR HIGH TO HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS WHOS PARENTS ARE DIVORCING, SO AGE 13-17 YEARS WHO ARE CHILDREN OF DIVORCE.
PLEASE READ THE INSTRUCTIONS CAREFULLY.
Each student will complete the Group Proposal project to demonstrate mastery of the course content and concepts. The project should be approximately 10 pages in length (not including title page, reference pages, or appendixes with group session outline or supplementary materials). Do not refer to yourself in the 1st person. Rather, refer to “the group leader or leaders”. The following guidelines should be utilized for completing the project using each sub-heading (must be in the order listed below).
Develop an eight-week (eight-session) group proposal with these elements:
a. Purpose: Briefly state the purpose of your program in 1 or 2 sentences (i.e., This program is designed to…)
b. Population and type of group: Be specific. Tell whom the group is being developed. Include the age range of group members, gender, and developmental aspects, and identifying criteria. Do not include material from the theoretical approach.
c. Rationale: What is the focal problem? Define and explain. Why is there a need for some form of treatment for this population and problem? Why is the group approach a more viable modality of treatment than individual therapy with this problem? Be sure to support your statement by appropriate literature review – at least 7 references are required in this section. Follow APA – cite any information that is not a common knowledge.
d. Type of group: What group format will you use in your program, e.g., a task, psychoeducational, counseling, brief group, etc? Be specific. How does the literature support your choice? Include references to support the choice of this approach and associated interventions/techniques – at least 3 references are required in this section.
e. Recruitment: How will you “get the word out” about your group? Where will you get the group members, how would you get referrals and motivate people to come?
f. Screening: How will you select (or de-select) members for your group? What are the selection criteria? Indicate the screening process that you will use. Include copies of any pre-tests, intake forms, or any other forms in the Appendix.
g. Structure: State the time and day, duration (# of hours), open/closed format, and frequency of the group meetings. Include the size of the group and where you suggest this group should meet. State the rational of this group size, at least 1 citation in this section is required.
h. Pre and Post Group Meetings: Indicate your plan for pre- and post-group meetings. Include day, time, and place. Specify what you plan to do in these meetings.
i. Goals: What are the overarching goals for this group? It is important that you have goals in mind before you organize the group. Be specific.
j. Ground Rules/Norms: What rules and norms will be/might be implemented to ensure that the group functions to its highest potential?
k. Ethical Issues: What ethical issues are inherent in your group program? How will you handle the issue of confidentiality, informed consent, parental permission, etc.? Attach the informed consent draft in the appendix.
l. Multicultural Issues: What multicultural issues need to be addressed? How will you handle ethnic or cultural diversity? What issues might arise in your group, given the problem and population? At least 3 citation are required in this section.
m. Group Leadership: What is the role of the group leader? What qualifications are necessary? What style of group leadership best suits your group?
n. Risks and Benefits: What are the risks and benefits of the group program, both in a general sense and of your group specifically.
o. Evaluation: How will you evaluate the efficacy of the group experience? An evaluation form is mandatory. Include a copy of your evaluation form in the Appendix.
p. Group Sessions: for each session list: (a) specific goal(s) of each session; (b) discussion topics; (c) activities and techniques that you will employ for the session. This should be as detailed as it needs to be for you to walk into the group and lead it without additional preparation – it should contain notes and materials for the group leader for each of the 8 sessions. This can be part of the appendix section of your paper.
NOTE: Be sure to cite everything that is not a common knowledge, especially when you are stating rational, describing the background of the problem, or choosing a theory for your approach. This is a basic APA requirement.
