Peer – Kyra’s Discussion Post:
1. Essential principles of delegation in professional nursing care:
I believe an important principle when it comes to delegation is ensuring you are delegating the appropriate task to the right person. If we are unsure if the task is appropriate, communication is always key. Communication is a great tool when it comes to delegating because things can easily be misunderstood. We also may assume that someone is capable of doing a taks when they may not be or may feel uncomfortable doing it. Open communication can go along way such as allowing for questions instead of just telling someone to do a task is more appropriate. Also it is important for the nurse delegating to understand she is responsible for that task still and may need to supervise too.
2. Essential principles of prioritation in professional nursing care:
In the medical field, things can change very quickly and our days can be fast paced. It is important that we as nurses are able to pick out the highest priority patient or task to complete first. We need to be able to look at a situation and determine what needs done first, what is time sensitive and most crucial. Having the ability to think quickly and be able to adpat to changes is critical as well. Sometimes plans change and we need to quickly reasses and make a new plan.
