Overview: Managers in health services organizations and health systems are used to challenges. They are faced with high expectations from consumers and patients, clinicians, and services payers and are dissected as to the cost and quality of what they do. These manages are familiar with the challenges of demands for greater efficiency and effectiveness. Therefore,the directing function is important.
Effectively directing others in organizations depends on the ability of managers to lead, motivate, and communicate with those they direct. The quality of leading HSOs/HSs affects the work accomplished by individuals and groups, as well as performance of organizations and systems in pursuing their missions and objectives. Additionally, success in the directing function is influenced by how effectively managers assist and lead in the motivation of others and by how well they communicate with them.
This phase consists of three sections addressing (1) management skills, roles, competencies (2) application of the content perspective of motivation; and (3) application of the process perspective of motivationDirecting
