Describe the structure and setting of the family you interviewed, the roles each family member plays and draw a family tree.
Part B: Family Project topics (1750-word limit)
Using information gathered during the Family Project interviews and relevant literature sources, discuss the following topics in detail and how they influence the health, well-being and development of the child in the family interviewed.
1. Pregnancy and labour
Consider any complications that may have implications for the parents or child. e.g., illness, prematurity; traumatic birth etc.
2. Family choices relating to child health, e.g., Parental smoking, immunisations, feeding choices
Consider reasons for parentâs decisions, e.g., health beliefs, societal norms, preferences, influences and sources of information for families (health professionals, friends or family members, online), and the impact these choices may have. Refer to literature on feeding and immunisation guidelines
3. Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs)
Consider what they are, their impact, their relation to the social determinants of health and what can be and is being done to prevent them or their negative effects
4. The role of health and social care professionals in caring for the family unit in the early years
Discuss any health problems in the child, siblings or family members and how that has affected the family. Discuss the use of health services (routine checks vs. emergency care) and experience of the encounters; sources of health advice (health professionals, friends or family members). Consider who is involved, their role and impact on the family unit
5. The impact of climate change
Consider the potential negative consequences of climate change on the development and health of a child, e.g., the impact on medical conditions and the social and physical environment that a child may grow up in.
Demonstrate evidence of critical thinking e.g., by considering differing viewpoints on the topics and discussing factors that may influence the familyâs behaviours and beliefs.
Be non-judgmental in your account of the development and parenting of the child.
Part C. Reflection (500-word limit)
Discuss and reflect on any significant learning points in relation to âthe familyâ and how taking part in the Family Project has impacted on you. This is a reflection on your family project, not a summary of its content. Use Gibbâs reflective cycle as a template to help you think about how you might take your learning forward. Do not completely focus on the actual undertaking of the project, (e.g., the amount of reading or preparation time).
