Describe your initial thoughts about the 7 dimensions/themes that the authors discovered after analyzing the interview data. Were the dimensions predictable or expected for you? Or were you surprised by any of the dimensions that were revealed through the study?
Young children often are unable or have a difficult time expressing their needs, especially if they are in pain or discomfort. As a nurse caring for a sick or dying child, how would you go about assessing and addressing the child’s pain and comfort needs? What resources could you use or what other individuals could you ask for help?
Communication was one of the 7 dimensions addressed in the research study. Imagine you are a nurse taking care of a dying child with terminal cancer. The parents are asking you what the child’s prognosis is. How would you respond to this? Would you defer to the physician? Or would you answer the question honestly, to the best of your knowledge?
