Assessment Requirements:
Within one single document, you will need to produce four (4) pieces or sections of written work. This
patchwork assignment involves a variety of written tasks and will enable you to demonstrate your learning
across the module learning outcomes. You will need to produce three (3) written critiques of original / primary
research. The three critiques should demonstrate your knowledge of diverse issues such as, different types of
research methods and design, different populations or different research issues such as ethics, governance, bias,
sampling, reliability / validity and other aspects. You may choose to include papers reporting on similar
populations/methods, but which have differing findings from each other. Select one quantitative and two
qualitative or vice versa, or one quantitative, one qualitative and a mixed method approach. The final piece of
your patchwork assignment should be a written reflective account of how your choice of research articles
critiqued, and your learning derived from critiquing them, have helped shaped your own learning journey
towards becoming an accomplished evidenced based mental health nurse. Each of your four (4) written pieces
should be around 500 words in length (+/-10%).
For the written three critiques, you may elect to use a recognised critiquing framework. Examples of such
systematic methods of critiquing research can be found at the following published sources, all freely available
online;

work. The reference list (and citations) must be consistent with HSK referencing guidelines.
