Details of the Scholarly paper
*Scholarly Paper: The paper should be a minimum of 8 pages and a maximum of 10 pages, double spaced, excluding references and bibliography. Please use subheadings when writing the paper.
This assignment is designed to provide the student with an opportunity to examine and critique the current literature and provide a discussion on a topic relevant to nursing informatics. Select ONE from the following two topics.
Late papers will be subject to late penalty as identified in the Faculty of Nursing Handbook.
TOPIC 1
Select a specific electronic health record application (such as electronic documentation, barcoding technology, physician order entry, electronic MAR, clinical decision support etc…).
Review and summarize the current evidence on the selected application as it pertains to patient safety. It is the expectation that you do a review of the current literature at minimum 5 articles on the specific application and its impact on patient safety.
A summary and critical analysis of the evidence identifying the strengths and gaps in the literature that you reviewed is expected.

TOPIC 2
This topic has you implementing an electronic application in your clinical area, such as the implementation of a new clinical piece of equipment (ie glucometer, infusion pumps), implementation of a new data reporting form, electronic documentation etc…
Describe the process of implementation and support the discussion from a theoretical perspective.
Discuss barriers to the implementation of the electronic application selected and how to address those barriers. Your discussion is to be supported from the literature.
