Students complete the Module readings FIRST before submitting their paper under Assignments on Bb. Students must include credible sources on the topic of interest outside of the Module readings to best present the points they want to make and to earn full credit.
Purpose
This assignment helps students to focus on ethical situations/dilemmas nurses and nursing students face, and to address these issues effectively. Students MUST read the entire ANA Code of Ethics with Interpretative Statements (2015) to include: the introduction, each provision (nine), and all accompanying interpretative statements. Learning about the ANA Code of Ethics prepares nurses to apply this information in the practice setting.

Submit papers as a Word document (not as a PDF).

Format
• Cover Page
o Title Page, Student Title Page .
• Text/Body (three to four double-spaced pages) in an acceptable font.
o Do not exceed four pages. Text beyond four pages will not be read/graded.
o Provide an introduction (1-2 paragraphs).
o Section One
▪ Explain what an ethical dilemma is, then explain why the selected situation is an ethical dilemma for the nurse (1 page).
o Section Two
▪ Select two ANA Code of Ethics provisions with interpretive statements and apply them to the selected situation, providing at least one example per provision (1 page).
o Section Three
▪ Identify, cite, and reference a specific law related to this dilemma and explain what the nurse would need to examine about this law and why (1-2 paragraphs).
o Section Four
▪ Explain what moral distress is, then explain how this concept might affect the nurse as it relates to making an ethically sound decision and provide an example (1-2 paragraphs).
o Provide a summary or conclusion (1 paragraph).

o Must include at least three (3) peer-reviewed journal articles.
o Must include the American Nurses Association. (2015). Code of ethics for nurses with interpretative statements.
o Must include at least one specific law related to the selected dilemma.
o Textbooks and credible websites may be used, cited, and referenced; however, they will not count towards the minimum number of references.
o Students are encouraged to exceed the minimum number of five (5) references.
o Sources must be current and not greater than eight years since publication.

• Students must demonstrate: Continuity and Flow, Conciseness and Clarity, and use an Active rather than Passive Voice.
