Evidence-Based Practice Report
The purpose of this assignment is to help you learn about evidence-based practice through independent literature searches on a hypothetical situation. The hypothetical situation is to envision yourself as a nurse on an evidence-based practice committee in a healthcare organization. As a nurse on this committee, you have been presented with a clinical issue prevalent within the organization (ex. Increased rates of CAUTI, Ventilator Associated Pneumonia, etc). You will need to conduct a literature search to find background evidence/information of the clinical issue. Students will identify a nursing model or theory (Eg. Neuman’s Systems Model, Theory of Human Caring, etc) based on concepts related to the clinical problem that will lead them to an effective solution for implementation. Following selection of the nursing model, you will continue to search the literature and appraise and rank the evidence for an intervention/assessment to address the clinical problem. Once an intervention/assessment has been selected you will then decide how to promote the adoption and evaluation of this clinical practice in your hypothetical health care institution.
In a 5 to 6 page paper (using at least 5 peer-reviewed articles), you will describe and discuss the following:
1. Description of clinical issue affecting the healthcare institution
2. Background evidence of clinical issue and concepts related to problem
3. Identification of nursing model/theory and explanation of selection.
4. Literature-based evidence supporting the nursing assessment or intervention.
5. Implementation of the new clinical practice by nurses in your hypothetical healthcare setting
6. Evaluation plan adopted by the organization to assess the effectiveness of the practice change.
(Note: The clinical practice you recommend should be an autonomous (or relatively autonomous) nursing action (e.g., an assessment or an intervention). This does not include delegated interventions such as administering a medication or a provider’s decision such as giving a medicine versus counseling.
