I have interviewed the person I picked for the interview (Alex G) and already obtained their answers, I just need the answers formatted into APA format. The date of the interview was 2/17/23.
The assignment also states to mention the persons role, Alex G. is a detective for the sexual assault and violent crimes against children division of Little Elm Police Department in Little Elm, Texas.
These are the questions:
1. How long has the key informant lived in the community? If a formal leader, ask how long the person has been in their current role or position.
2.What are the strengths of the community?
3.What are the challenges or needs in the community?
4.What are the top three issues/problems (health-related or other) facing the community? Ask for examples of issues/problems if clarification is needed?
5.What (in the opinion of the informant) has contributed to the issue/problem?
6,How do you feel the community needs to address the issue/problem?
7.What community resources are already available to address the concerns?
8.Is there other information you feel is important to share about the community?
These are the answers provided:
1. I have lived in the community for 2.5 years and have been in my role for about 5 months.
2. Leadership: support us 100%. Community engagement: allowing every citizen has a voice and their issues are heard. Communication: our community strives to be transparent and establish positive relationship with the members of the community. Innovation: the community is always looking on better/more efficient ways of doing things.
3. Staffing for law enforcement. Nation wide, thereâs a shortage of officers. Increase in property taxes due to the addition of entertainment venues, hotels, tourist attractions being built. This community was a small community that has now more than quadrupled and is having growth pains trying to keep up.
4. Rapid growth, mistrust of law enforcement, effects of Covid
5. Rapid growth: more attractions and homes being build means that more people are moving into the community. This leaves the community trying to play catch up on building roads, managing traffic flow. More vehicle on the roads and more people living in the community means more traffic accident and calls for services. This prevents a challenge to police for having to hire enough officers in such a short period of time to be able to handle the call load.
Mistrust of law enforcement: the average age of residents in the community is decreasing and the newer generations have grown/be taught to question and distrust law enforcement which makes law enforcements job harder and more dangerous.
Effect of Covid: law enforcement has seen a surge in mental health related calls due to the effect of COVID. Covid caused a lot of home schooling/working from home which led and increase of anti-social persons with mental health problems that law enforcement has to provide services to. Law enforcement is needing more training to deal with mental health crisis but classes canât keep up with the number of officers needing the training.
6. Make hiring an adequate number of police a priority. Construction of larger roads to facilitate the traffic increase. Community outreach programs to educate the public and build trust.
7. Community outreach program. Thereâs only one officer assigned but plans to add more are in the works. Citizen police academy were citizens can get hands on law enforcement related training and education. Citizens on patrol: to allow citizens who want to volunteer, help law enforcement. Expansions of roads are beginning. The addition of more mental health training classes being put on for law enforcement.
8. Not every community is the same and so thereâs not a cookie cutter answer that applies to every community. Trust in the community is hard to earn but easy to lose.
*If you need to add words or edit around his answers a little bit, that is perfectly OKAY! Do what you need to in order to make everything flow together. I can also ask additional questions if you feel that is needed.
***INSTRCUTIONS FROM TEACHER***
– The key informant interview should be approximately 2-3 pages in length (not including the title page and reference list) and must be written in narrative format that follows the APA, 7th edition guidelines. Do not write the paper in a question- and-answer format. At a minimum, the paper should include an introduction, a body, and a conclusion. Subheadings are helpful to organize the paper. The introduction should include information about the key informant, why the informant was selected, how the interview was arranged, and if the interview was face-to-face or on the phone. The body of the paper should contain the information from the questions asked the informant. The conclusion should be a reflection of the information obtained and what you learned. The paper should be clear and concise. A title page is required.
– The APA manual advises that personal communications can not be found in literature, therefore there is no citation on a reference list (APA, 2020, p. 260). A reference page will not be needed unless you use information from another source. The only citation will be in text and include the first initial of the first name and last name of your informant. It also includes the exact date of your interview.
