With this literature review, you are setting the stage [for] or justifying the need for your research study.
Examples
Barnet et al. (2017) conducted a longitudinal study exploring the relationship between youth incarceration and adult health outcomes. The study found that one to twelve months predicted worse subsequent adult general health. The length of more than one year predicted subsequent adult functional limitations, adult depressive symptoms, and adult suicidal thoughts. Although several longitudinal studies have explored the link between youth incarceration and worsening adult health, this study adds the dimension of incarceration’s duration. The study demonstrates that youth incarceration is independently associated with worse adult physical and mental health outcomes. What needs to be studied further is the duration of incarceration, specifically among youth that belongs to minority groups such as African Americans and Hispanics.
Saadi and Schnell (2019) conducted a correlational study to investigate maternal stress reflected by the autonomic nervous system activity using heart rate variability in Jewish and Muslim mothers while staying at home with their children. Furthermore, the study compared factors such as demographic, socio-cultural, women’s status in
their households, and environmental conditions on maternal stress at home related to ethnicity. The study found that Jewish mothers do not suffer from maternal stress, while Muslim mothers do. Differences in these women’s stress levels had much to do with their environmental factors. Muslim mothers suffer from undesirable environmental and social conditions like not having a home garden and a park near their residential areas, which may contribute to increased maternal stress levels compared to Jewish mothers. What needs to be studied further is whether children’s exposure to high noise levels may affect mothers of different ethnicities or habitual noise in their environment differently.
A cross-sectional study was carried out to assess the knowledge, attitude, and practice of HIV-positive mothers on antiretroviral therapy toward infant feeding. Data was collected using a structured, pretested, interviewer-administered questionnaire and the data analysis was descriptive by using frequency tables, means, and standard deviations. A total of 402 participants were interviewed, with a 100% response rate. The mean age of participants was 29 years old. The overall level of participants’ sound knowledge and favorable attitude was 68% and 75%, respectively. Only 23% of mothers were practicing infant feeding. Further research needs to be studied on the factors affecting the knowledge, attitude, and practice of HIV-positive mothers on antiretroviral therapy toward infant feeding (Ekubagewargies et al., 2019).
