Instructions Respond to one of the following prompts in an original discussion

Instructions
Respond to one of the following prompts in an original discussion post by midnight, Day 4 of Week 7.
After you respond to 1 prompt in an original post, you are also required to provide substantive responses to at least 2 of your classmates’ posts and to remain active on at least 2 additional days during Week 7.
Prompts:
1. Emile Durkheim believed that religion promotes social cohesion and social control, and offers meaning and purpose to human life. Do you agree with him? Why or why not? Provide an example from your experience or others, to support your viewpoint.
2. German philosopher, journalist, and revolutionary socialist Karl Marx (1818–1883) studied the social impact of religion and believed religion reflects the social stratification of society. He argued that religion maintains inequality and perpetuates the status quo. Do you agree with him? Why or why not? Provide an example from your experience or others, to support your viewpoint.
Weekly Discussion Guidelines
1) Include source material in the initial post response. APA in-text citations/reference lists are needed to show how the source was used. *Initial posts without source material lose 10 points. *If you forget to use source material please just repost under the old initial post with your revised initial post with the source material. Initial post due end of day 4.
(2) Students need to respond to 2 classmates before the end of day 6 to maximize “peer engagement” points. Day 7 is to be used for responding back to others, making up posts (always better to post late than not at all), and making additional posts to meet the requirement of responding back to peers on multiple days.
(3) The rubric says students must post at least 2 of the follow-up posts on different days and not the same as the initial post to gain full “peer response frequency” points. So that means 3 different days posts should occur. If you only make 2 follow-up posts to peers on day 6 for example – you will lose 5 points. So you want to either post early so you have plenty of time to spread out replies OR you can post both follow-ups on the same day and then return later in the week or Sunday and post one more time.
(4) Responses need to be substantive and done before the module ends; responses under 2 sentences will not be considered substantive. Responses should be thorough, explanatory, offer some sort of new insight or reasoning, or offer critical or analytical thought and should be in full sentences. * The discussion rubric indicates late submissions (after the week/module ends) will not be accepted for grading.
*Extra discussion tips can be found under “Supplemental Materials” in Module 1. Please refer back to the supplemental materials under Module 1 throughout the course as needed. Here is a guide to FAQ on the course discussion. FAQ Galen Discussion-1.docx
Note: When you use outside material, please use in-text citations and give references at the end of your post in APA format. Otherwise, it is deemed Plagiarism. Plagiarism is a critical offense according to Galen policies.
