Overview:
Each student will review a local news article and three journal articles related to one of the social determinants of health and use photovoice as a creative approach to explore the chosen determinant.
Instructions:
• Choose a local news article related to one of the social determinants of health.
• Identify and describe the appropriate social determinant of health that is underlying the issue from the news item.
• Provide a critical analysis of the impact of your social determinant of health with integration of current peer reviewed evidence (at least 3 journal articles, not including textbook).
• Use photovoice technique to capture an image that will raise awareness and understanding of your chosen social determinant of health.
• Reflect on your photovoice. Write an abstract including what your photovoice represents and how it relates to your chosen social determinant of health.
Written Assignment Outline:
• Photovoice with title and caption (1 page)
• Abstract including reflection on why you chose the photo you did and how it pertains to your social determinant of health. This is to be written as a first person reflection using APA 7 th edition formatting. Be sure to include your reason for choosing this photo. This section is not intended to reiterate what you wrote in your scholarly section. Expected word count is 200 to 300 words. In text citations/references are not required for this section. See the assignment rubric for further details. (1 page)
• Newspaper article review and three journal article critical analysis depicting high level of critical thinking and in-depth exploration into the content of the article and how it rela es to the chosen social determinant of health. This is to be written as a third person reflection using APA 7 th edition formatting. Expected word count will is 500 words maximum. (2 pages maximum)
• APA 7 th edition reference list (1 page)
PLEASE NOTE:
• The social determinant of health chosen must be from the list the professor gave. Please see attached document called SDH selection and you will find a web with a couple social determinants of health stated. You can pick one from those listed and use that as the basis for this paper.
• The News Article must be less than 2 years old. Between April 1st 2021 to date
• The News Article must be local to my home town which is Thunder Bay Ontario Canada

• The 3 Journal Artciles must be less than 8 years old. Between April 1st 2015 to date
• The Journal Articles must be Peer Reviwed & Systematic Review Article NOT Literature Review as that is not indepth.
Tips On How To Write Page 1:
• Paste a clear coloured image representing the social determinant of health chosen.
• Put a nice catchy caption and title on this page just before pasting the image chosen.
Tips On How To Write The Abstract: 300 words (1 page)
• What does it represent?
• How does it relate to your chosen social determinant of health?
• Describe your picture. What is happening in your picture?
• Why did you take or use a picture of this?
• What does this picture tell us about your chosen social determinant of health?
• How can this picture provide opportunities for us to improve our community?
Tips On How To Write The Review Of News Article & Critical Analysis Of Three Peer Reviewed Journals: 500 words (2 pages)
• Choose a local news article related to one of the social determinants of health.
• Identify and describe the appropriate social determinant of health that is
underlying the issue from the news item.
• Provide a critical analysis of the impact of your social determinant of health with
integration of current peer reviewed evidence (at least 3 journal articles, not
including textbook).
In Conclusion:
• The First Page is a picture that depicts the social determinant of health chosen.
• The Second Page is an abstract that talks about the picture on page 1.
• The Third & Fourth Pages are reviewing the news article chosen and a critical analysis of the three journal articles chosen.
• The Fifth Page is the refence page. References must appear in alphabetical order using 7th edition APA referencing.
• Grading Rubric attached please view to see how it will be marked.
• An example of the thought process on how someone else did theirs is attached. Might be helpful.
