TSo far, I have finished the Gastrointestinal (GI), Musculoskeletal, Skin(Derm), Neuro, Cardio and Endocrine (not dm) systems sections of the six soap notes I submitted for this course and posted on Project Concert. Since the focus of the program is geriatrics, I will need to devote more time and energy to the area of mental health since the elderly are more likely to have a wide variety of mental health issues as they become older. I should always consider the health of those aged 65 and above as my first concern because of the unique challenges this age group faces as their bodies fail to complete the program (Molnar & Frank, 2019). I have completed the C/V, GI musculoskeletal, derm, and neuro programs for the elderly.
I still need ten additional categories to incorporate into my complete clinical criteria for pediatrics (infant, child, and adolescent) and maternal health. These categories include wellness, HEENT, cardiovascular, pulmonary, gastrointestinal, genitourinary, muscular, derm, neurological, psychological or mental, and endocrine.
For this course, my most memorable patient interaction occurred with a group of seniors (aged 65 and above). My experience with them was unforgettable because it opened my eyes to the importance of doctor-patient communication and the difficulties it might present in the healthcare setting (Korzh & Tsodikova, 2019). My experience with them taught me the importance of open and honest communication in establishing trusting connections with older adults and facilitating their care. By doing so, the patient-provider connection may be strengthened, health outcomes can be enhanced, medical mistakes can be reduced, and precious time spent together can be maximized (Jack t al., 2022). As a result of my experiences with them, I now understand that a patient’s level of maturity is not diminished because of any sensory, cognitive, or motor limitations. Older adults may prefer more polite forms of addressing.
