Based on the analysis, I realized that when a policy is formulated and implemented, some people gain the most, as was the case with the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act of 2010 (ACA). The Obama regime enacted this health reform law to reduce the percentage of uninsured Americans and improve healthcare access (Nadash et al., 2018). The law included several measures to accomplish this goal, including health insurance regulations, employer mandates, affordable health insurance exchanges, and premium subsidies to qualified people and families. The Trump administration aimed to eliminate the individual mandate and other parts of the Affordable Care Act. In simple terms, an inadequate number of legislative support hampered the Trump administration’s interest in repealing the Affordable Care Act. After completing a cost-benefit study, the support of numerous lawmakers waned. It dawned on them that the average American voter would be harmed by the plans to repeal and replace ACA. Because of this, they will need more time to be re-elected.
Legislators in the force might use cost-benefit analysis to assess their actions’ and ideas’ positive or negative effects on their chances of being re-elected. The notion of cost-benefit analysis impacted legislators’ efforts to change the Affordable Care Act. Republican members of the House of Representatives disapproved of the AHCA’s elimination as a significant factor in the defeat of 33 Republican representatives. The American Health Care Act was an attempt to eliminate the Affordable Care Act (AHCA) (Bussing et al., 2020). As a result, several Democrats in the House were re-elected, while the chances of re-election for the number of Republicans who had backed the measure increased. To improve their prospects of being re-elected in the 2018 election, several politicians have withdrawn their support for different actions to repeal the Affordable Care Act.
The American Health Care Act is a proposed alternative to the Affordable Care Act (AHCA). A suggested tax credit in this act was tied to one’s income rather than age. In March 2017, Republicans in the House of Representatives presented a measure. Over 24 million people would lose health insurance under this proposed law (Bussing et al., 2020). The Bill’s goals included
Doing away with the people and employer mandates,
Cutting down on Medicaid funding and eligibility,
Eliminating healthcare tax credits, and
Adjusting the coverage regulations for those with pre-existing conditions.
Accordingly, voters’ choices to re-elect legislative leaders were influenced by their opinions and support of initiatives to change the Affordable Care Act. Voters choose who will serve as senators and representatives in both houses of Congress. Because of this, their actions and stances on policy concerns are affected. Voter sentiment was influenced by politicians’ actions and stances on ACA repeal and replacement. Several lawmakers who voted with the Republican majority to repeal the Affordable Care Act (ACA) were defeated in the 2018 midterm elections (Nadash et al., 2018). Far more Democratic lawmakers were re-elected than their Republican opponents, even though the Republicans were the ones who passed the measure.
