Though there is currently a lot of hype around this technology, artificial intelligence (AI) has the power to disrupt healthcare in positive ways. Kortni – Artificial intelligence (AI) has become a major topic as we continue to gain better understanding of its ability as well as seeing its unlimited capacity to continuously improve systems already implemented throughout society. Many researchers believe incorporating AI into healthcare can assist with managing patient care, improving patient outcomes, and providing care to underserved populations. There is a study, in the planning phases, about integrating this technology into mobile healthcare clinics (Liu et al., 2022). The concept of this study is to implement telemedicine, electronic health records, autonomous driving, and medical equipment integration into one mobile healthcare clinic to reach underserved communities, serve communities during pandemics or times of crisis, and more, making healthcare access unlimited for all (Liu et al., 2022).
My capstone change proposal discusses the impact mobile healthcare clinics may have on dialysis patients in underserved communities in being compliant with preventative care management and dialysis treatments. Although I will not be implementing AI into my change proposal, researchers have found it beneficial in improving patient outcomes and reaching those within underserved populations. This technology wouldn’t improve the implementation of my change proposal but would improve the efficacy in which my change proposal could operate by. It would increase the amount of health information that could be provided between the mobile healthcare clinic and dialysis center about patient health conditions, it would provide more availability for dialysis patients to be seen by a primary care physician and assist in early recognition of underlying conditions in a community that often has multiple chronic diseases and underlying health conditions.
However, this technology presents numerous concerns to healthcare workers, organizations, patients, and payors (stakeholders). AI provides information based on data or research conducted by human scientists and researchers (Russell et al., 2023). Therefore, AI can often have bias due to limitations within studies conducted as well as bias that some researchers project in their study (Russell et al., 2023).
