Research Paper :
Assignment Description: Research Paper outlining common drugs of abuse, diagnostic criteria, and risk factors. Etiology, social effects, interventions, and prevention strategies are included. This paper should have a title page, and references (at least 3 professional), and be 10-12 pages for content.
Student Directions:
For this assignment, identify two drugs of abuse. Include their diagnostic criteria and any additional relevant information from the DSM V.
• Discuss risk factors of addiction in general. Do genetics play a role? Include risk factors specifically related to the two drugs identified. Resiliency and protective factors should also be included.
• What is the likelihood of some individuals becoming addicted to alcohol/drugs? Of not becoming addicted?
• Discuss the social effects of substance use disorders
• Identify at least three specific intervention strategies in treatment for each of these two identified drugs of use
• Identify at least one prevention strategy for each of these two identified drugs of use
• Discuss appropriate intervention approaches for addictive families. What are some of the barriers associated with educating families? How might these barriers be overcome?
