Mental illness is a serious societal issue. As many as 1 in 4 people will struggle with mental illness at some point in their life. Due to a general lack of talking about these issues as well as a lack of public awareness, many people who are suffering go untreated or are incorrectly diagnosed for many years before they receive the treatment they need. Additionally, many people suffering from a mental illness feel judged, looked down upon and unworthy in the eyes of others. The only way to stop this stigma is through education and awareness!
For this end of course assignment, your goal is to create a unique project that sheds light (raises awareness) on either a specific mental health issue or on mental health as a whole. Your project should be designed in a way that it provides accurate information, insight and education to others. You have free range to decide how to best raise awareness to others but some ideas could include an informative video, a social media campaign, educational brochures, a website, an online workshop, an infographic, creating a song, a poem or work of art. The sky is the limit but keep in mind that your grade will reflect the level of creativity and originality you display as well as the impact that your project will have on someone who sees it for the first time.
You can choose to research any mental illness that we will cover this semester as well as any other mental illness that is listed in your textbook that we do not cover. You may work on this project individually or with a a partner from class. Keep in mind if you choose to work with a partner, each individualâs contributions must be clearly identified and the final product must demonstrate the work of two people.
I would like to do my project on Dissociative Identity Disorder, and my plan was to make a website for the disorder. My website will spread awareness by explaining who the disorder affects most, how it can develop as well as how to treat it, ect. My target audience would be mostly parents because the earlier we’re able to catch a disorder and treat it, the better. At least two sources i’ll for sure be using are the DSM5 by the APA, as well as my textbook.
Your final project must also include a typed list of all resources (books, journals, and websites) that you use to complete your project in APA format and at least one of those sources must be a scholarly source of information.

Decide if you will work alone or with partner
Gather some information and do some research on your topic. Be sure you only use reliable, valid and scientific sources!
Is your idea creative? Unique?
