Group counseling Proposal.
Decide on what group you would like to propose. Consider your rationale, the significance and need for this group.
Step 2: Research theoretical orientation and previous models of group that may apply to what you are proposing. I would encourage you to take some intellectual risks here. While a CBT group for a diagnosed mental illness (e.g., depression) would appear to be “simpler” to design, you may want to consider what topics interest you, are needed for populations you currently work with or you will be working with in the future, what areas that you want to learn more about but haven’t seen them done much. For instance, you may find psychoeducational groups to be important or needed; you may think a support group for particular client population (or their families) would be crucial; or you may think a non-traditional group will be particularly helpful for a population who do not have much access to mental health or must engage with stigma about mental health groups. Feel free to think outside the box.
