Application of Psychology Paper Outline Tips
The following tips help you develop an outline that will be used when writing the final draft of your Application in Psychology Paper. Use these tips as guides. The outline you create is a graded assignment due. The submission of the outline enables you to make positive steps towards building the final paper and to receive feedback on progress made. The final paper is due later in the course.
Tip 1. Organizational Strategy – When building the outline for your Application of Psychology Paper, use a traditional essay organization strategy. Think of the five-section essay that you have likely been exposed to throughout your academic career. Specifically, five-section essays have an introduction, 3 body sections, and a conclusion section.
In the introduction paragraph, you briefly introduce your topic and state the purpose of your paper. Your thesis statement should be something like, “In this paper, I will explore the symptoms, lifestyle impact, and treatments of X psychological disorder through character Y in movie Z. To accomplish this, I will briefly summarize the movie, explore X disorder, and then describe how Y character experiences X disorder.” Following the introduction, your three body sections consist of the movie/character summary, the research on the disorder, and then describing the disorder through the character. The fifth, and last section, is the conclusion paragraph where you present conclusions and restate the purpose of your paper (how you achieved your purpose) to close out the paper.
Note: Not all papers written over oneâs academic career are amenable to this format based on the assigned topic, but many are. To provide an example, another five-section format students have applied successfully includes addressing three psychological concepts so the three concepts are their body sections. Within the conversation dedicated to each concept, a focused discussion applies the concept to the character before moving on to the next concept. This is perfectly acceptable as well.
Tip 2. Bullet Points – Use bullet points, not complete sentences, when constructing the outline. This is not a mini version of your paper; rather, it is an outline of the main concepts to cover. On the flipside, you must provide enough detail in your bullets so I can easily deduce what will be in your paper. This can include themes, major points, facts, etc. in bullet format. Good, thorough outlines can generally be done in 2-4 pages.
Tip 3. Communicating With Your Audience – Provide a summary of the movie/book as if I have never heard of it before. When writing the summary remember, retelling isn’t summarizing; your goal is to choose only the most important information to include. Your summary needs to stand on its own before you can go into your psychological concepts; otherwise, I may not have a clue what you are talking about. This is called prepping the reader for what is to come. You do this by developing the first main body section to be a summary of the movie no matter how you format the rest of your paper.
Please accept this order with the mind that you will also write the actual paper..thank you and let me know if you have any questions.
