This final presentation is an opportunity to showcase all that you have learned over the six weeks of this course. Bring in content from each week to demonstrate your understanding of the course content and your ability to apply the theoretical concepts in a detailed case presentation.
Instructions
For this assignment, choose a fictional character from contemporary life (a popular TV show, film, book, cartoon, cable series, etc.) or you may choose a person you may have known personally, as long as you protect his/her anonymity by assigning a pseudonym and ensure confidentiality by changing key characteristics enough that if s/he were to read your paper, they would not easily recognize they were the inspiration.
You are presenting your case to colleagues at your weekly peer supervision group, where each clinician gets an opportunity to present a current client they would like some feedback and/or guidance on. Supervision can be helpful when client and clinician are at an impasse, when one or both are feeling lost or stuck in their work together, when an ethical dilemma has arisen that the therapist could use some outside perspective or advice on, or a when the client is working on material that may be triggering the clinicianâs own unfinished business, making objectivity and decisive interventions difficult.
In your case presentation, be sure to include:
Part One: Case History (3-4 pages)
Background Information: Age, gender, work, health status, family mental-health history, family and social relationships, drug and alcohol history, life difficulties, goals and coping skills, strengths and weaknesses.
Description of Presenting Problem: Presenting problems or symptoms, physical, emotional, sensory symptoms, thoughts, feelings and perceptions related to symptoms. List and describe which screening or diagnostic assessments would be appropriate for this client and fictional scores reported to support your diagnosis.
Diagnosis: Provide your diagnosis including the DSM-5 code and a detailed description of this disorder(s). Explain how you reached this diagnosis and how the clientâs symptoms fit the diagnostic criteria, any challenges or difficulties in reaching this diagnosis, how you ruled out other possible diagnoses.
Part Two: Intervention (2-3 pages)
Treatment: Include at least two different approaches, summarize each and contrast how they would treat this client differently, and why you chose the ones you did.
Detail what a typical session might look like, what the therapist says and does, how the client might behave, etc.
Discuss the clientâs prognosis, and the likelihood this treatment approach will be successful, using relevant statistics from peer-reviewed journals.
Additional Considerations
Papers should be at least 5-7 pages in length, not including your reference page
