Consider the cognitive development theories in chapter 5. Based on these theories, choose a theory that you ascribe to and discuss why you believe it is the most accurate theory for children developing cognitive capacities. If your choice is in fact true, what implications should this have on parents’ choice of toys for their children if their goal is to maximize cognitive development? (give examples)

The student presents concepts in the discussion in a complete and thorough manner. It should be noted that students may NOT do better on this criterion than their credible sources section but may do worse. In order to present the concepts, one has to have credible sources to rely upon.
15 points – Quoting
In general, the APA HIGHLY discourages quoting in academic writing. There are generally only two acceptable reasons to quote in APA. 1) The concept is so new and has been published less than four times. In this instance, the audience is not likely to know what the term or concept means and to make sure that it is accurately conveyed, it may be appropriate to quote the original author. Please note that this will not apply to any discussion in this class. 2) It is a historical quote. It is highly unlikely that you will have any historical quotes in your discussion. Please avoid them. In general, you should summarize and/or paraphrase the material and then cite it (give appropriate credit).
15 points – Critical Thinking
The student demonstrates an ability to critically think about the discussion topic by being able to present either multiple conflict points of view or the strengths and weakness of a single point of view in their discussion. Please note that if you quote, you cannot do better than the maximum points given for quoting. Quoting generally indicates that the writer does not understand what they are writing or they are being lazy. In both instances, this does not indicate critical thinking.
10 points – General Writing
The student’s post a minimum of 300 words. Students who do not meet the minimum requirement will have this section prorated. Additionally, students should write with appropriate college level writing.

Students are required to provide meaningful responses to at least two students. A meaningful response has two components. 1) it references something specific in another students writing. 2) it adds to the conversation by providing a thoughtful response. Responses such as: I like what you said, I agree, etc. are not meaningful.

You either presents the strengths and weaknesses of their perspective with evidence to support both and/or presents more than one perspective with evidence to support both.
