Requirements for the Journal Article Summary
After carefully reading the entire article, you should include the following in your two-page
double-spaced* summary (in this order):
• The general subject of the article
• The theoretical background of the study –provide the reader with a description of the
theories that are being studied, as well as definitions of any key concepts being studied.
• The hypotheses/predictions of the research
• The type(s) of methodologies used in the study (i.e. experimental, correlational,
observational)
• The variables that were measured and/or manipulated
• The methods of the study, including who the participants were and what they did
• The findings of the study (explain in your own words –do not include tables, figures, or
statistics).
• The authors’ interpretation of their findings (found in their discussion)
• Limitations to the study and any remaining questions that need answering
*If the article chosen is lengthy because it covers several studies, another half page may
