Steps:
1. Introduce the adolescent you are interviewing by discussing their age, brief physical description,
personality, parents/guardians, home environment, context in which you are observing them and who
else may be present. Must be 11-17 years old.
This section should be at least ½ page.
2. Referring back to Chapter 1 select TWO developmental theorists that you are going to discuss for this
observation and define the theories and cite text. You will want to observe the adolescent through the
lens of these two theorists. The TWO develpmental theorist i choose were Jean Piaget and Erik Erikson.
Provide a citation and reference page for the textbook. Belsky, J. (2022). Experiencing the Lifespan. (6th ed). Worth Publishing.
This section should be at least ½ page.
3. When interviewing the adolescent discuss which issues are important to them at this time in their life,
dating, relationships, peers and family. Who are the biggest influences in their life right now? What do
they feel stresses them out? Etc.
Utilizing your selected theorists discuss the adolescent’s abilities in the areas of cognition, physical, and
socioemotional development for their age. Please provide at least one example from each theoretical
perspective – meaning you will have two examples of cognition (theory #1 example, theory #2
examples, etc.), physical development and socioemotional development. Discuss how the adolescent
may or may not be at an age-appropriate level etc. Also be sure to include biological and contextual
influences (nature vs. nurture). Cite information from the text to support your findings.
This section should be at least 1-2 pages.
4. In concluding your paper reflect upon what you learned from this observation that you weren’t aware
of before or that surprised you. Include any other insights that pertain to the development of this
child.
This section should be at least ¼-½ page
