There will be one out-of-class writing assignment. This writing assignment will be approximately 500 words in length (excluding cover page) on an assigned topic. (See below.) It will be completed in APA style, double-spaced, in Times New Roman 12-point font with 1-inch margins. Your writing assignment should have a cover page.
Instructions: Please read the following scenario.
Three friends are having a discussion on Black Lives Matter and the nature of prejudice. Friend No. 1 says, “I believe prejudice is innate; people are born prejudiced. I think it’s wired into the brain.” Friend No. 2 says, “I believe prejudice is totally learned. It is taught by parents to their children.” Friend No. 3 says, “I believe that prejudice is a sociocultural phenomenon. It is systemic; every society needs a scapegoat.”
You will write a five-paragraph essay (approximately 500 words), beginning with a paragraph that defines the term prejudice, three subsequent paragraphs that will interpret how the three perspectives (biological, developmental, and social psychological) explain prejudice. This will be followed by one paragraph arguing your choice of perspective and why you believe it’s the best explanation of prejudice. The paper will be written in APA style, including references.
