This task involves engaging in independent learning to teach yourself about one advanced analysis method (Chi Square), and then reflecting on this experience to help you identify strategies to improve your future learning.
The purpose of this activity is to engage in self-directed learning and to reflect on how to improve future self-directed learning opportunities.
Please complete the task described below regarding your strategy for teaching yourself an advanced analysis.
1. To be completed before beginning to research your analysis. Please describe your strategy for teaching yourself your chosen analysis. Your strategy should include the following information (feel free to use lists where appropriate rather than full prose):
a. The resources you will use (include resources from outside the module)
b. The types of learning activities you will engage in (e.g., reading, working through problems or examples, testing yourself, etc)
c. What you will do if you get stuck (i.e., what do you plan to do if you feel like you aren’t making any headway in understanding your analysis?)
d. What is your timeline for completing these activities (e.g., what days will you plan to do each of your planned activities, how much time to you think each activity is going to take?)
2. To be completed after researching your analysis.
• Begin by evaluating your strategy (200-300 words).
• Why did you choose these learning activities and materials? Is it because this is how you’ve always studied? Did you tailor your strategy to the content type, or do you approach all modules in pretty much the same way?
• Can you think of how your strategies link to any psychological theories (perhaps related to learning and motivation)? You don’t need to conduct independent research for this question. The purpose is to reflect honestly on why we choose certain activities.
3. Now, please evaluate how effective your strategy was in practice.
• Did you stick to your plan or did you deviate from it? Did your actions succeed in helping you understand your analysis? I don’t mind if there is a large discrepancy between what you planned and what you ended up doing, so please be honest. The point of this activity is to identify things you could do differently next time.
• If there is a large discrepancy between your plan and what happened, then you should write about why that is and what you could do to change it in the future.
• Can any points from question 2 help you identify other strategies to try?
